India pioneered the concept of Remote Software
Development as early as the 1970s and is recognized worldwide
as the leader in IT and software outsourcing services. The
Indian software industry has grown at an average compounded
annual rate of more than 50% during the past 10 years, and
achieved export revenues of $4.6 billion for the fiscal year

software and services from India during 1999-2000.

a vast talent pool of software and IT professionals with
a wide array of skills from hard-core engineers, to
application developers, to data-entry professionals. The
rate of technology adoption in India is very high and expertise
can be found in virtually all technology domains. Graduate
high-tech education is extremely developed, with more than
50,000 engineers, programmers and other IT professionals
added to the workforce annually.
Indian software and IT companies
have an excellent record for quality. Many of them are
ISO and/or SEI CMM certified.
In fact, the majority of SEI CMM level 5 (the highest level)
certified companies in the world are from India, which
is an extremely important factor in making the offshore development
methodology work.
