IT Enabled Services, often called Business
Process Outsourcing, are business processes and services
that are sourced from a geography other than that of the
end users using telephony, dedicated networks, the Internet
and various software applications. These services are non-technical
by nature but carry a significant value-addition for companies
that use them. Some of the best-known examples in India include
call centers and medical transcription services but other
areas are rapidly evolving such as backoffice processing,
accounting and legal services, HR related services, payroll
management, and other customer interaction-based services.
Financial institutions have been quick to utilize these services,
followed by retail and logistics companies, airlines and
many others.
